ABOUT THE ARTIST
KIM STADIN is an American abstract artist based in New York.
Her work is celebrated for its bold use of color and captivating precision. Employing gravity as her collaborator, Kim pours paint directly onto the canvas, allowing it to flow downward, drawn by natural forces, creating vertical ribbons of paint that gather in striking pools of color on the plastic sheeting beneath.
“The process is as much about letting go of control as it is about making intentional choices. To me, this technique embodies freedom, chaos, and the raw power of natural forces.”
While her method embraces spontaneity, Kim’s finished pieces exude harmony, featuring dozens of vibrant hues that radiate positivity. Her art is a celebration of color as a transformative force—one that counterbalances darkness with light, and sorrow with hope.
For over 25 years, Kim has worked as a producer at Dateline NBC, immersed in stories of murder, tragedy, and resilience. Witnessing the darkest sides of humanity, she turned to painting to create equilibrium—to counteract the weight of her work with something vivid, fluid, and life-affirming.
“Covering true crime means constantly being surrounded by grief, injustice, and complexity. Art became my way of restoring balance in my life—of injecting light where there is darkness. It’s about creating a sense of harmony in a world that often feels anything but.”
Today, Kim’s art can be found in collectors’ homes across the United States and Canada.
She lives in Syracuse, New York, with her two daughters.
