is an American abstract artist based in New York.
Her work is celebrated for its bold use of color, emotional resonance, and captivating precision. Employing gravity as her collaborator, Kim pours paint directly onto the canvas, allowing the paint to flow downward, drawn by natural forces, and forming intricate, vertical stripes.
“The paint eventually drips off the bottom of the canvas, creating either a natural extension of the work on the surface below or allowing the excess to fall away,” she explains. “The process is as much about letting go of control as it is about making intentional choices. To me, this technique embodies freedom, chaos, and the raw power of natural forces.”
While her method embraces spontaneity, Kim’s finished pieces exude harmony, featuring dozens of shades of color that radiate positivity. Her art is a celebration of color as a transformative force, evoking hope and joy.
Kim turned to art as a way to balance the emotional toll of her professional life as a producer at Dateline NBC, where she has worked since 2000. Over her 25-year career at the show, she has been immersed in stories of murder, tragedy, and resilience, often confronting the darkest sides of humanity.
“Working on murder stories has exposed me to the most painful and complex aspects of humanity—it’s a constant immersion in chaos and tragedy,” she shares. “Painting became my refuge—a space where I could channel those heavy emotions into something tangible and transformative. My divorce added yet another layer of personal upheaval, but through art, I found a way to reclaim beauty, balance, and joy in my life.”
What began as a deeply personal practice soon resonated with others. Almost accidentally, a business—and a brand—was born in 2017. Today, Kim’s art can be found in collector’s homes throughout the United States and Canada.
Kim lives in Syracuse, New York with her two daughters and two beloved dogs, where she embraces the vibrant balance of family, creativity, and color.
